National Novel Writing Month

I’ve been so excited to post this entry, and now that it’s October the time has come!

Behold, the amazing wonder that is National Novel Writing Month (better known as NaNoWriMo!)

The premise: come up with an idea for a novel, and write all of it in the span of one month, specifically November!

I won’t be participating this year, but I’ve thrown my hat in the ring in years past! I used it mostly to write back-story, though. My main problem was that I always had a novel I was working on (the one I just finished), and according to their rules you need to start a brand new one to officially participate. Boo.

Ooh, wow. Here I thought I couldn’t join in this year, and I just realized…I could write the second book in my fantasy series! I haven’t started it yet, and I have a few ideas! Haha, I should probably do more editing on the one I just finished before I commit to something that immense, but I would love to at least get my ideas down.

Anyway, epiphanies aside, I wanted to post this to encourage you aspiring novel writers out there to dig deep and pull out a novel! It will be a good motivator!

From personal experience, I’ve learned that doing NaNoWriMo at the same time as school is nearly impossible, and about two years out of college I finally have the time. At least I’ll try to write a bit, if not all 50,000 words.

But as they say on the site, “Win or lose, you rock for even trying.”
